We have some pretty amazing destinations here in Colorado, with a nearly endless list of things to see, do, and experience. For the most part, our attractions and activities are positive, wonderful things… but some are far less joyful. In fact, there are a few spots that might just be better left unexplored. One such place is this creepy street, which is considered one of the most haunted in America. Thornton is well-known as one of Denver’s largest suburbs, but it is what you cannot see that makes this city downright frightening. Spanning most of Thornton is the seemingly innocent Riverdale Road, which passes through both busy city intersections and more rural areas. While Riverdale may seem like your typical city street, it is anything but, as the road – which is literally named the “Gates of Hell” – has many morbid legends surrounding its paved twists and turns. Just what are these legends? For starters, there is the tale of an insane man murdering his wife and children by setting their mansion on fire. The alleged murders are what gave Riverdale Road its nickname, as the mansion sat behind a sturdy gate that you can still see today. Unfortunately, the gruesomeness does not end there, as even locations as seemingly innocent as chicken coops have turned into supposed meeting places for cult members and witches. Whether or not Riverdale Road is indeed haunted is up for debate, but one thing is for sure: there is something spooky happening in Thornton. Do you have any eerie experiences with Riverdale Road?
