Nestled on the corner of Colfax Avenue and Marion Street in Denver, Colorado, stands a Victorian mansion with a rich and storied past.
Built in 1889 by mining magnate G.V. Kram, the mansion has served as a home to various historical figures, including Earl B. Coe, the founder of the Coe Pharmacy, and Thomas R. Bray, a pharmacist who operated his business out of the mansion’s dining room and parlor for nearly 40 years.
Today, the mansion is owned and operated by Josh Holder, who has transformed it into a unique and eclectic bar and Airbnb. The bar, known as The Mansion on Colfax, features a wide selection of craft cocktails, beers, and wines, as well as a full food menu. The Airbnb, located in the back of the mansion, offers guests the opportunity to stay in a historic and haunted home.
According to local tales, the mansion is haunted by a friendly St. Bernard ghost named Sam. Sam is said to have been a beloved pet of one of the mansion’s former owners. He is often seen wandering the halls of the mansion and is said to be particularly fond of children.
In addition to its haunted history, the Mansion on Colfax is also known for its underground tunnels that were built in the late 1800s, and was a speakeasy during Prohibition. Today, the tunnels are still accessible and offer guests a glimpse into Denver’s past with rumors saying it goes to the capitol.
