Woman Wakes to Horrifying Discovery After Hearing Whizzing Sound
Chelsea, a resident north of Denver, was jolted awake from an afternoon nap on June 8 by an unexpected noise. Exhausted from a work event, she had decided to rest, but around 4 p.m., she heard a sudden pop followed by the sound of glass shattering.
In a state of shock, Chelsea immediately left her bedroom and called her husband for assistance. Upon his arrival, they discovered their bedroom window shattered, with a bullet hole in the wall and a rifle bullet embedded in it. Sharing her ordeal on Reddit under the username u/Gogomagickitten, Chelsea explained, “The bullet whizzed past my head. If I had been sitting up or walking, it might have been a vastly different story.”
The police investigation revealed that the bullet came from a personal shooting range in a neighbor’s backyard, approximately 900 yards away. The neighbors had been shooting that day, and one bullet had strayed, ultimately breaking Chelsea’s window. Reflecting on the incident, Chelsea felt fortunate to have been lying down when the bullet misfired, as sitting up would have placed her directly in its path.
Following the investigation, the neighbors agreed to relocate their shooting range to a safer direction, away from the neighborhood. This adjustment was particularly important as the area is filled with children, and a school is located about half a mile away.
Chelsea’s story quickly gained traction on Reddit, receiving over 22,000 upvotes and 520 comments. One user, u/BoardGamesAndMurder, shared a similar experience of a friend being shot while watching TV, highlighting the lack of justice in such situations. Another user, u/PeaceLoveDyeStuff, recounted an incident where a bullet entered their nephew’s bedroom due to a high school prank.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers of nearby shooting ranges and the importance of proper safety measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
