New Speed Cameras to Target Reckless Drivers in Federal Heights
FEDERAL HEIGHTS, Colo. — Federal Heights will soon install new speed cameras on West 92nd Avenue near North Tejon Street, targeting one of the city’s most dangerous roads. These cameras aim to curb reckless driving and prevent fatalities, particularly focusing on those racing down the hill at high speeds.
Police Chief Robert Grado emphasized the severity of the issue, noting multiple fatal accidents in the past year and a half. The cameras will capture license plates and driver images, aiding enforcement efforts.
In addition to speed cameras, mobile photo radar and red-light cameras will be deployed at various traffic hotspots. The city council has unanimously approved purchasing these tools, and a public awareness campaign will precede their implementation. The first cameras are expected to be operational within four to six months.
Residents have long called for enhanced safety measures on this roadway, and the new cameras represent a significant step toward addressing these concerns.
