Golden police are actively searching for a woman accused of stealing more than $5,000 in checks from the mailbox of Hillside Community Church, located at the intersection of Ford and First Streets. According to authorities, the thefts occurred between August and October, with surveillance footage revealing the suspect returning multiple times throughout October. The repeated burglaries have left neighbors shocked and saddened, as churches are generally viewed as safe community spaces. “Pretty nuts, stealing from a church,” said Brian, a local resident who expressed disbelief over the incidents.
The Golden Police Department and Metro Denver Crime Stoppers released a description of the suspect: a woman in her 30s or 40s, described as either white or Hispanic, with brown hair and an average build. She was seen arriving in a dark Chrysler minivan driven by an unidentified individual who remained out of view of the cameras. Concerned neighbors noticed church officials installing additional cameras, heightening the sense that something was wrong.
Local residents are encouraged to assist in the investigation. If anyone has information, they can contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.
