The Denver Flag was adopted in 1926, after being submitted by Margaret Overbeck, a student at North High School.
It is designed to show the Yellow Sun against the Blue sky, over Snow Capped Red Mountains. The Yellow represents the gold that brought people to Colorado. Red was used in reference to the word “Colorado” which means “The Color Red” in Spanish. Colorado’s Native American heritage is symbolized by the White Zig Zag.
In 2004, the North American Vexillological Association, (The Official Association of Flag Nerds) voted the Denver Flag as the 3rd best city flag. Only Chicago and Washington DC’s were deemed better. What do you think?
