I remember back to my childhood when we didn’t have handheld devices. Gasp! Can our kids even imagine? Can they even begin to find something to do with themselves? What did we do with ourselves?
I for one used to put on plays with my fellow schoolmates. I would cast the parts on the playground. We would coordinate costumes and rehearse lines at recess and perform at one of our houses on the weekends. I mean, we meant business. Theater business.
Imagine how creative our kids could be if we got them off those devices. Yeah, they are convenient, but they really do their creativity a disservice. So how about this summer we create a space for these kids to get creative and put on some plays for us. I think most kids will find enjoyment in this. Whether it’s the acting part, painting scenery, costuming, makeup, singing, dancing, or sword-fighting, there really is something for every kid’s personality!
Let’s start by carving out a nook in a closet or under stairs or on the back deck and making that the stage. You can use tension rods or ropes and curtains. Just get creative. Anywhere can be a stage with a little imagination.
That’s the point here, let your child’s imagination take the driver’s seat and see where it takes you. Enjoy the ride!
