After a long Covid Hiatus, Frozen Dead Guy Days are back. FDGD is by far the largest festival in Nederland each year, and this year it looks bigger than ever. It’s going on March 18-20th.
If you’ve never heard of Frozen Dead guy Days, here’s the Quick Story: Grandpa Bredo was living in Norway up until 1989. He died, and his body was packed in dry ice, and shipped to California, where he was cryonically frozen for 4 years. Then he was shipped to Colorado to stay with his Daughter and Grandson. He ended up in a shed in Nederland, and ever since then, he has been kept on Dry Ice, constantly being replaced. And now, Nederland celebrates Grandpa Bredo each year with a big town party.
Things you can expect from this years celebration:
My favorite event is the coffin racing. It’s exactly what it sounds like. Someone gets in a coffin, and his or her buddies run them through the center of town. There’s also Frozen Turkey Bowling, Human Foosball, and other fun Frozen games. They will have 30 Live Bands on 3 different stages. 14 Food Vendors. Craft Beer and Cosmic Cocktails. Plus there will be a Polar Plunge in case you need a cold shower. Some events are free, but if you want to get into the music tents, you’ll need a $25-30 Wristband. There’s also VIP packages. Never Been to Nederland? It’s easy: I-70 to 119, like you’re going up gambling. Take that past Blackhawk, Central City, and it’s just past Rollinsville. I can’t speak for Mid-March, but it’s usually a very nice mountain drive.
