Every year, the Food Bank of the Rockies is on a mission to feed as many families as they can for the holiday season and beyond with its Food Bank for the Rockies Food Drive!
“It’s nice to have a sense of community around our events,” says Hannah Jones, special events and promotions coordinator for the Food Bank of the Rockies to #ImFromDenver. “It bonds and solidifies the support for our work.”
The Food Bank of the Rockies has teamed up with Tynan’s Automotive for a virtual and in-person food drive.
“With the help of #IMFROMDENVER and Hipshots, our goal is to break the all-time donation record of $20,000 which would provide approximately 60,000 meals to our community,” says the event page.
“For our neighbors experiencing food insecurity, it can be difficult to feel the joy of the holiday season. Together, we can help provide food for memorable, nourishing meals for our Colorado neighbors,” says the website.
According to the 2021 Colorado Health Access Survey (CHAS), Coloradans in every county report not getting enough to eat. In most southern Colorado counties, more than one in 10 people are food insecure.
.
“In 2019, Coloradans who experienced food insecurity were 3.2 times more likely to report fair or poor general health, 3.0 times more likely to report fair or poor oral health, and 3.9 times more likely to report poor mental health, compared with their food-secure peers,” says the Colorado Health Institute.
