The high school football season is in full swing this month. In spite of the cold weather, Denver residents attending the games have been enjoying a great start to another exciting season on the gridiron.
The current standings from last weekend’s games show some very closely matched teams. The Brighton Bengals have amassed a 3-1 record after defeating ThunderRidge last Friday. Their lone loss came at the hands of the D’Evelyn Eagles, who are currently undefeated (5-0) after their defeat of Northglenn.
The most interesting matchup might be the game between Wheat Ridge and Denver South. Both teams were undefeated coming into this game, with Wheat Ridge having won their tiebreaker against the Chaparrals. If Wheat Ridge wins, they will clinch the number two playoff seed behind D’Evelyn High School because of their head-to-head win over the Eagles.
The game between Englewood and Overland could be another interesting matchup this Friday night. After winning last week against Mullen, the Trailblazers will be slowing down this week as they prepare to take on the number four ranked team in the state. Overland (3-2) has been steadily climbing the standings since their loss to D’Evelyn at the beginning of September.
More games will be played next Friday night before another set of standings is released on Tuesday. Stay tuned to the news for a preview of next week’s games.
In Denver, the most common high school football teams are Cherry Creek and Manual. However, there is a variety of other schools that have had recent success in this sport as well, such as East High School and Thomas Jefferson.
