A 22-year-old woman tragically lost her life on Saturday morning at Aspen Highlands ski area.
Aspen Skiing Company confirmed the incident, stating that the skier collided with a tree on the intermediate Exhibition run at 11:26 a.m.
Details surrounding the young skier’s identity are being kept private.
“The woman was unconscious and non-responsive and advanced lifesaving measures were initiated immediately. Patrol was in contact with the ER doctor at Aspen Valley Hospital and at 12:02 p.m. the woman was pronounced deceased on the scene,” Skico officials said in the news release. “We are deeply saddened by this tragic accident, and our thoughts are with her family and friends at this time.”
This heartbreaking news marks at least the third known skier death in Colorado this season. It follows the loss of a 69-year-old Vail ski instructor on December 28th and a 47-year-old snowboarder from Colorado Springs on January 2nd.
