Moccasin Fly Club— a Boulder company— is going to New Orleans this Fall.
“This trip is my favorite of the year because of the food, fishing, and amazing scenery in the bayou,” says John Hunt, the
Director of Moccasin.
Moccasin Fly Club— founded in 2018— works with fly fishing anglers worldwide. The club offers the best options for targeted species with annual trips. The journey to New Orleans is a favorite for front-range anglers, especially for big Redfish, aka “Bull Reds,” who are over 20 lbs and have a huge fight.
“We started in 2018 with some clothing and community meet-ups, and by 2019, we were running trips to US destinations for corporate and private groups. That led us to Nevada, Louisiana, and New Mexico for some,” says Hunt. “Beautiful spots for fly fishing. Most recently, we opened up some trips to Colorado goose hunts and Texas duck hunting for our clients, and it’s had some great reception. We still make fly fishing apparel but have focused on affordable fish for big fish, as that’s what we get the most emails and calls about. Fly fishers love finding new locations for their bucket list species. Redfish in the Gulf of Mexico is one of those bucket list fish. Holding up a 20lb plus Redfish in the bayou during sunrise is a lifelong memory.”
Being based in Colorado has given them a network of guides, locations, and year-round fisheries for people within and outside the state. Here’s what you need to know about the trip:
- November 8-11.
- You’ll get $200 off the trip if you book before October 15th.
- This includes three days of fishing (fly or spin) on a skiff in the bayou.
- Three nights lodging.
- A Moccasin Fly Club shirt & hat.
- Plus an opening dinner on the 8th, all for $2500.
Even at the standard $2700 pricing, this is a great deal for any angler looking to take their first saltwater trip or a seasoned angler looking to find that trophy Redfish on the fly.
“Colorado is a magical place for many activities, and fly fishing is no different. You can fish year-round for trout or for certain seasons to find certain fish. High alpine cutthroat in the summer, big browns in the fall, and lake run Kokanee are just some of the options here for anglers to chase,” says Hunt.
