Alexander Mountain Fire in Northern Colorado Expands to 992 Acres
A wildfire burning in northern Colorado, west of Loveland, has grown to 992 acres with 0% containment as of Tuesday morning. The fire, named the Alexander Mountain Fire, ignited shortly before noon on Monday in the mountains near Sylvan Dale Ranch.
Evacuations and Road Closures
As of Tuesday morning, mandatory evacuations and several road closures are in effect. The areas under mandatory evacuation include CR18E from Pole Hill to Pinewood Reservoir and from Drake to Dam Store along Highway 34, encompassing Storm Mountain and Palisade Mountain. Residents in these areas are being urged to evacuate promptly.
A Grim Reminder
The current evacuations and the spread of the Alexander Mountain Fire bring back memories of the Cameron Peak Fire, which occurred nearly four years ago. In August 2020, the Cameron Peak Fire ignited in the Upper Poudre River watershed in the Arapahoe and Roosevelt National Forests. It became Colorado’s largest wildfire, burning over 200,000 acres and lasting for 112 days in a wilderness area west of Fort Collins.
