Denver7’s Anne Trujillo will be stepping down from her position on Thursday after nearly 40 years on the air in Denver.
Trujillo has been a beloved and well-known figure in the Denver media landscape, having covered numerous major stories and winning several Emmy awards. She was there when the first flight left DIA, when the Broncos won the Super Bowl (multiple times) and so much more.
Truillo made the announcement via social media where she highlighted the best and worst of times, when it comes to Denver coverage.
“And so begins my final week at Denver7! I will officially sign off on Thursday.
It’s time for me to leave Denver7 and pursue the next chapter of my life—one that allows me the flexibility to pursue new passions as well as time with my family. I plan to explore different opportunities to engage with the Colorado community in new and deeper ways. I’m excited to harness my curiosity and to challenge myself.”It’s almost inconceivable to me that nearly 40 years have passed since I first joined Denver7 as a general assignment reporter. As many of you know, not only did I build my career here, but my family as well. I met my husband Mike Kalush, a photographer, on day one, raised two wonderful children, and am now a proud “Lita” to my two grandchildren.
My years at Denver7 have been the most formative of my life. I’ve covered the best of times like the opening of DIA, the Democratic National Convention in 2008, three Super Bowls for the Broncos, Stanley Cup victories for my beloved Avs, this year’s NBA Championship win for the Nuggets, and countless quieter moments of everyday people making a positive impact in our state. I’ve also covered the worst of times, of unimaginable heartbreak beginning with Columbine and reporting on one mass shooting after the next. These are the stories that never leave me. In my own personal life, having alopecia while being in the public eye has continued to be an uneasy role for me. Through it all, the good and the unspeakably painful moments, you have been there. You are—and will always be—my community, and for that I feel extremely blessed.
As I get ready to walk out the door at 123 Speer Blvd, I have already shed tears and am sure many more will fall as I think about how transformative KMGH has been in my life. I grew up here. I am proud of the many stories I was able to tell and honored to all of you who let me into your homes and personal lives. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I look forward to taking a much needed break from some of the heavy news of the past few years before I make any further commitments. One thing’s for certain: I’m not leaving this beautiful state. I am a Coloradan and this is my forever home.
While Truillo will be missed, she’s more than deserving of a full, loving, peaceful and enjoyable retirement.
