Teen Arrested After Shooting at Car Carrying Children in Aurora, Police Say
An 18-year-old suspect has been arrested after allegedly shooting two adults while they were driving with three children in the back seat in Aurora on Saturday night. According to Aurora Police, the victims—a man and a woman—were traveling south on North Airport Boulevard near East Colfax Avenue around 7:20 p.m. when someone in a suspect vehicle opened fire on their car.
Investigators say the incident began when the victims traveled to Aurora to sell items to the suspects. After taking the goods without paying, the suspects fled, prompting the victims to follow. During the chase, shots were fired at the victims’ vehicle, striking both adults.
The victims drove to East Alameda Parkway and South Chambers Road, where they flagged down emergency personnel. They were transported to the hospital; the man suffered serious injuries, while the woman sustained minor wounds. All three children initially appeared unharmed, but a later update revealed a 12-year-old girl had a superficial graze wound.
Later that evening, officers located the suspect vehicle at a home on North Jasper Street. After conducting surveillance, police stopped the car near South Peoria Street and East Mississippi Avenue and arrested the driver without incident.
The suspect, identified as Christopher Campos-Anguiano, 18, was booked on five counts of second-degree attempted murder. The final charges will be determined by the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office. Detectives are continuing the investigation and working to identify any additional suspects involved.
