A car was repossessed in Lakewood with an unexpected passenger—a sleeping child in the backseat—leading to a brief kidnapping scare.
According to Lakewood police, the incident occurred near a hotel on the 11900 block of West 6th Avenue Frontage Road. Around 9:23 a.m., officers received a report of a stolen car and a possible kidnapping.
The car had been repossessed and towed to a lot on East 48th Avenue in Denver. However, the tow operator was unaware that a young boy was asleep in the backseat at the time.
Lakewood police quickly responded, initially treating the situation as a kidnapping. Thanks to a tracking system in the vehicle, authorities were able to locate the car within 20 minutes.
Upon finding the vehicle, officers discovered that the child had slept through the entire ordeal. They had to knock on the car windows to wake him. Thankfully, the boy was unharmed and is now safe.
