The average price of gas per gallon here in Colorado is around $4.92. That’s an increase of 0.78 cents in the last month, and it seems to be climbing. Now granted, we always prepare ourselves for higher gas prices in the summer, but no one was prepared for prices quite this high.
But after years of being cooped up in pandemic conditions and not being able to travel for the past two summers, it seems that the gas prices aren’t deterring everyone from their summer travels. We still see families hopping in cars for road trips, jumping on airplanes, and aboard cruise ships. One thing is for sure, prices are high but we need our spirits lifted so we pay the prices.
There are talks of a gas tax holiday. President Joe Biden told reporters on Monday that he is still considering a brief pause on the federal gas tax. This could save Americans about 18 cents per gallon. He also mentioned a gas rebate card is in the works as a possibility for Americans. The president expects to come to a decision on the matter by the end of the week.
Many drivers dread that weekly fill-up at the pump that is now costing us much more, more often. It seems everywhere we turn lately there’s a price increase somewhere. But at least one thing is happening out there, people are traveling and enjoying their lives, despite all the challenges. And that is surely a change from pandemic quarantine times. So here’s to making memories this summer. Let’s focus on the moments, and for just a minute, forget about our bank accounts.
