Colorado is quickly becoming one of the most sought after places to live. According to a recent study, over 265,000 people moved to Colorado last year.
“SmartAsset, a financial tech company, has released a list of the fastest-growing cities with populations over 100,000 in the United States. That growth was based on the population difference reported by the U.S. Census between 2017 and 2022 for the 344 largest cities,” reports Nextstar.
For Colorado, Longmont saw the highest increase of new neighbors growing from “94,100 people in 2017 to more than 100,600 in 2022.” Aurora also saw a 6.1% increase since last year. Here are the other Colorado cities that say a spike in communal growth:
- Arvada: 4.7%
- Colorado Springs: 4.2%
- Thornton: 4.2%
- Greeley: 3.7%
- Fort Collins: 2.1%
- Westminster: 1.6%
- Pueblo: 1.1%
- Lakewood: 1.1%
- Denver: 1%
Colorado’s shrinking cities since 2017
Three Colorado cities saw their populations decrease between 2017 and 2022:
- Highlands Ranch (-8.5%)
- Centennial (-3%)
- Boulder (-2.8%)
The SmartAsset analysis also found that the following major cities saw a dip in population between 2017 and 2022:
- Salt Lake City, Utah
- Kansas City, Missouri
- Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
- Chicago, Illinois
- Portland, Oregon
- Houston, Texas
- New York City, New York
- Des Moines, Iowa
- San Diego, California
- Milwaukee, Wisconsin
- Washington, D.C.
The hardest hit city was Paradise, Nevada, which lost 21% of its population.
