Cripple Creek will be getting a new snowy attraction this winter.
In collaboration with Ice Castles, a Utah-based company, the two plan to create the ultimate winter wonderland by building ice castle attractions.
“This summer has been really fun, we are kind of bouncing back from the pandemic, a lot of folk are showing up, they want to get out and about,” said Jeff Mosher the Special Project Director for the town of Cripple Creek to KOAA.
The ice castles are expected to be built and open around Christmas time and will be located at the Cripple Creek Event Center.
Cripple Creek officials say that the ice castles will be a great addition to the town’s winter tourism offerings. The town already hosts a number of winter events, including the Cripple Creek Ice Festival, which is scheduled for February 17-25, 2024.
“They grow the icicles in a controlled environment and then every night they come out and plant the icicles and they spray them down in water and the castle builds off those,” Mosher said. “So they light them up and there will be music, so it is more of a night event, which will be fun.”
