Protesters Flood Denver Streets to Oppose Trump’s Early Actions in Office
Hundreds of demonstrators gathered on the lawn of the Colorado State Capitol on Wednesday to voice their opposition to President Donald Trump’s recent actions, including sweeping immigration policies and the establishment of a new “Department of Government Efficiency” led by billionaire Elon Musk.
The protest took place amid nearby operations by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, which resulted in an unspecified number of detentions.
Demonstrators rallied around a range of concerns, from immigration crackdowns and transgender rights rollbacks to threats against diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. The protest kicked off at noon, with thousands marching through downtown Denver, waving flags, chanting, and holding signs.
This demonstration was part of a larger nationwide movement, with protests occurring in all 50 states under the hashtags #BuildTheResistance and #50501—symbolizing 50 protests, 50 states, in one day. Online activists urged participation with messages like “Reject Fascism” and “Defend Our Democracy.”
Many signs and chants focused on Musk’s growing influence in the federal government, along with demands to shut down Project 2025—a controversial policy initiative.
“Houselessness rose 18% in 2024, and it’s only going to get worse under Trump’s policies,” one demonstrator said.
Another protester, speaking on immigration, added: “Most people coming here illegally would take a legal path if it were available. They just want to provide for their families and give them opportunities they never had—there’s no crime in that.”
The demonstration concluded around 8 p.m.
