Denver Mayor Michael Hancock on Saturday enacted a curfew starting Saturday at 8 p.m. that will extend into Monday morning, and Gov. Jared Polis has signed off on bringing in the Colorado National Guard as the city attempts to restore order after two nights of protests over the death of George Floyd at the hands of police in Minneapolis.
“Once 8 p.m. hits, our message is very simple: Go home,” Hancock said in a Saturday afternoon news conference. Behind him, wooden boards stood in front of broken windows across the bottom of Denver’s city/county building, the result of protests that devolved into riots with tear gas, rubber bullets and widespread vandalism.
