Cory Brown, 34, was on his way to get a tattoo symbolizing being “on the right path” when he was struck by a car while riding his electric unicycle near Cheesman Park in Denver. The accident left him with multiple injuries, including a fractured pelvis, dislocated shoulder, lacerated spleen, and damaged kidneys. Reflecting on the crash, Brown noted that while he may have missed a stop sign, he’s simply relieved that he avoided paralysis and that the driver was unharmed.
Despite facing months of recovery, Brown remains optimistic and attributes his survival to the protective gear he always wears—helmet, wrist guards, and knee pads—which likely minimized the severity of his injuries. Brown has used his unicycle as both transportation and as part of a juggling routine at stoplights to make extra cash. Following the accident, he is undeterred, planning to add a full motorcycle jacket to his gear and eager to ride again once healed.
To help cover his medical expenses, Brown started a GoFundMe, which has already garnered support from friends and strangers alike. Touched by the generosity, he reflects on life’s unpredictability and emphasizes the importance of protective gear for anyone on scooters, bikes, or unicycles. And yes, he still plans to get that tattoo, seeing the crash as just a temporary nudge off the path he’s determined to stay on.
