If you’ve spent any time in the suburbs, you’ve probably come across a Little Free Library, where you can take a book, and leave a book. Now someone has done that for Movies. It’s called FreeBlockbuster.org, and they are encouraging people to share the movies that are collecting dust in a basement somewhere. Selection varies from Box to Box, so you may see VHSs or DVDs or Blu-Rays. It’s up to you if you want to try the candy selection that is left behind.
Currently, there are only 4 FreeBlockbusters in Colorado. One in Denver, one in Lakewood, and a couple on the way to Boulder. If you would like to start your own Franchise, you will need a box to put your media in. FreeBlockbuster has a few repurposed plastic newspaper machines with a pull down door for sale for about $250 a box. On top of that, you will need to fill it up with some movies to get it going. Then list your box on FreeBlockbuster.org, so people know that you’re there. FreeBlockbuster.org also has lots of support items to get the word out, like stickers and T-shirts. (Mostly Stickers though) If you’re not interested in putting a box on your property, you can also drop off any unwanted movies in a box you find.
FreeBlockbuster.org is not affiliated with the Blockbuster Chain with one remaining store in Oregon.
