19- year oldMuhammed Ibraheem Afie has been charged with first-degree arson, second-degree assault, and obstructing a peace officer/firefighter.
On Sunday afternoon, Aurora Fire Rescue arrived at 3616 S. Idalia St. and quickly put out a fire.
According to a police report, Afie set his sister’s dolls on a lit stove, then he sprayed lighter fluid around the house before lighting 16 candles in another room. He did all of this because “God told him to.”
Vander Molen’s, of Aurora Police Departments, captured footage on his body camera. The video shows Afie at the residence, where firefighters told him that he needed to leave because it was dangerous. An officer tried to stop him, but Afie jerked away from the officer and continued to walk towards the house.
According to the arrest document when Officer Molen attempted to block Afi from crossing the street, Afie pushed Vander Molen. Vander Molen wrestled Afie to the ground and the two struggled with Molen injuring two of his fingers.
Eventually, Vander Molen was able to handcuff Afie and he was then taken to a patrol car. The arrest document said also that, Afie was “rambling, referring to ‘Allah,’ and burning idols.”
