Former Broncos QB Jay Cutler arrested for DUI and gun possession in Tennessee
Former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler, 41, was arrested in Franklin, Tennessee, after police say he was involved in a minor car accident and found to be driving under the influence. According to the Franklin Police Department, Cutler rear-ended another vehicle on Bridge Street around 5 p.m. on Thursday. Officers noted that Cutler smelled of alcohol, had bloodshot eyes, and was slurring his words during the interaction.
Cutler refused to undergo sobriety tests, prompting police to obtain a search warrant to collect a blood sample at a local hospital. Two guns were also discovered in Cutler’s vehicle, including a loaded pistol.
He was charged with DUI, possession of a handgun while under the influence, failure to exercise due care, and implied consent. Cutler was booked into the Williamson County Jail and released later that evening on a $5,000 bond.
The former Chicago Bears and Denver Broncos quarterback, who currently resides in Tennessee, had a notable NFL career, playing for Vanderbilt University before being drafted by the Broncos in 2006. After his time in Denver, he was traded to the Bears in 2009 and finished his career with the Miami Dolphins in 2017.
