A mountain lion was spotted in the Denver area over the weekend, prompting a response from local authorities. According to the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office, the sighting was reported on Saturday evening near South Parker Road and East Florida Avenue. A concerned caller mentioned that the mountain lion could be the same one that had been seen just days earlier in a residential area near Greenwood Village, close to Cherry Creek State Park.
Despite efforts to locate the animal, officials were unable to find the mountain lion. These kinds of sightings are not uncommon in Colorado, where mountain lions are native to the state and frequently roam in areas near urban developments, especially near parks and open spaces like Cherry Creek State Park.
If you happen to encounter a mountain lion, authorities advise that you call 911 immediately. Dispatch will then coordinate with Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) to ensure the proper response to the situation. CPW is experienced in handling mountain lion sightings and can provide guidance on what steps to take for safety.
Mountain lions, also known as cougars, are elusive creatures and can often be difficult to spot. While they generally avoid human contact, it is always important to exercise caution, especially in areas where wildlife is known to be active.
