The Boot Tan Fest is going on March 15th at Bluebird Backcountry in Kremling. The event cost is $69, and is geared towards women, and femme-leaning non-binary folks, who are over 21, and want to ski naked. If you identify as a man, this is not the event for you. It’s more of a Lilith Fair on Snow.
Last year, the founder of Wild Barn Coffee made a deal with the owners of Bluebird: Free Coffee for a couple of Free Passes. One thing lead to another and last year 22 women skied down the mountain naked. This year they are expecting 300 women for the naked ride. If you are interested in joining, you will need to plan ahead. You will need an avalanche beacon, probe, and shovel, as well as some clothes for the hike up. Sunscreen is probably a good idea as well.
There will also be a festival celebrating Women’s Back Country Skiing at the base of Bluebird Backcountry. There will be food trucks, booze and other merchants ready to take your money. The festival runs 8:30A-4P. Your dog is welcome as well.
If you’ve never heard of Bluebird Backcountry, you’re not alone. Last year was their opening season. They are between Steamboat Springs and Kremling, on Bear Mountain. They feature 28 runs with 1200 feet of vertical gain. on 4200 acres. This isn’t your typical resort type ski area. They are proud that they have Zero ski lifts, and no fancy lodge. If you want to ride, you’re going to have to hike. This drives the crowds away, and leaves the hills for true back country fans.
