2 in Custody After Shots Fired at Police During I-225 Chase Ending in I-25 Crash
Two suspects are in custody after a high-speed chase involving gunfire at police officers ended in a crash early Wednesday morning on Interstate 25. According to Aurora police, the incident began around 1:30 a.m. when officers attempted to stop a red car near East Colfax Avenue linked to a felony menacing case. As the pursuit moved south on I-225, a white pickup truck appeared, allegedly trying to block officers from continuing the chase.
Police say the suspects in the pickup began throwing objects from the vehicle and then opened fire on officers during the pursuit. The chase continued onto I-25 southbound, where police performed a PIT maneuver near Arapahoe Road, causing the truck to crash. A man and a woman inside the vehicle were injured and transported to a hospital, where they will be taken into custody upon release.
A firearm was recovered at the crash site, and fortunately, no officers were injured. Meanwhile, the red car involved in the original chase escaped south into Douglas County and has not been located. The investigation remains ongoing.
