Surveillance Video Captures Fatal Crash Outside Denver Rescue Mission
A newly released surveillance video captures the moments before a deadly crash outside the Denver Rescue Mission in the Ballpark neighborhood on Sunday morning.
The footage, recorded by Grace City Church, shows a vehicle approaching the five-way stop at Lawrence and Park, seemingly losing control before crashing into a light pole, a pedestrian, and the mission’s wall. The pedestrian was rushed to the hospital along with two people in the car but later died from their injuries.
Pastor Matt Hand of Grace City Church said the congregation did not hear the crash during their 10 a.m. service and only learned of the incident afterward. The church, which does extensive outreach with unhoused and marginalized individuals, believes they may have known the victim.
Authorities confirmed that this was one of two pedestrian crashes in Denver within 30 minutes but stated the incidents were unrelated. The driver remains in jail on involuntary vehicular homicide charges, with final charges still pending. Meanwhile, Grace City Church hopes to host a memorial for the victim, as they have done for others in the community. The coroner’s office has not yet released the victim’s identity.
