Broncos Legend John Elway Unmasked on ‘The Masked Singer’ Season Premiere
What do two Super Bowl rings, an NFL Hall of Famer, and a leaf sheep have in common? Apparently, Denver Broncos icon John Elway! The football legend surprised fans when he was unmasked on the season 12 premiere of FOX’s ‘The Masked Singer’, where he was disguised as a cheerful, fluffy leaf sheep—a real-life sea slug species known for its unique kleptoplasty ability.
Elway, 64, who spent 16 years leading the Denver Broncos as their star quarterback before transitioning into front-office roles, was eliminated during the show’s premiere episode. Emerging from the colorful leaf sheep costume, Elway told host Nick Cannon that while the experience took him far outside of his comfort zone, it was a fun opportunity he couldn’t resist in his retirement. “I’m not sure why I did it,” Elway laughed, adding, “but my grandkids will get a kick out of it.”
During the show, clues hinted at the contestant’s identity, including a quarter symbolizing Elway’s quarterback position and commentary from season 11 competitor DeMarcus Ware, who described Elway as a “GOAT” (Greatest of All Time). Judge Ken Jeong correctly identified the Broncos legend under the mask, though the reveal still shocked many in the audience.
In typical ‘Masked Singer’ fashion, the show combined fun costumes, surprising reveals, and fan-favorite celebrities—this time with a Broncos legend making headlines in a way fans never expected.
