Amidst the ongoing construction that has plagued Denver’s 16th Street Mall since spring 2022, a woman’s frustration with the situation took an unexpected turn when she decided to drive her car down the sidewalk, causing a scene of chaos and narrowly missing pedestrians.
On November 4, a video surfaced on Reddit, capturing the bizarre incident that unfolded on the 16th Street Mall. The footage, shared by user Cyrpious, shows a vehicle navigating through a narrow construction walkway, with a passenger urging onlookers to make way.
The video’s caption aptly summarizes the surreal encounter: “I came downtown for the dinner, but I stayed for the driver.”
As the car squeezed through the fenced walkway, its tires met their demise, popping against the barriers. The passenger, now outside the vehicle, attempted to guide the driver out of the predicament, but the woman behind the wheel persisted, her vehicle lurching forward and leaving scratches along its exterior.
Witnesses, concerned about a possible child in the car, were reassured by the passenger that no one else was present.
The video cuts to a jarring scene where the car collides with another vehicle parked outside the Cheba Hut at 1529 Champa Street. Undeterred, the driver swerves back onto the sidewalk, prompting screams from onlookers urging her to exit the vehicle.
A brave bystander, determined to halt the reckless driving, attempts to open the driver’s door and punches the window. However, the driver speeds off, swerving down Champa Street and narrowly avoiding other vehicles. The passenger, left behind, runs in pursuit.
