A seemingly carefree night of “thrill-seeking” took a horrific turn in the parking lot of a strip mall at the corner of South Circle and Monterey in southeast Colorado Springs leaving several people seriously injured.
A video circulating on social media captures the unsettling scene: five young people hanging precariously out of the open windows of a black SUV while the driver speeds in reverse. The reckless joyride culminates in disaster as the vehicle performs a donut maneuver, loses control, and flips over, trapping passengers beneath its weight.
Horrified bystanders, initially filming the stunt on their cell phones, sprung into action to help the victims. One person carries away a seemingly unconscious woman while others desperately try to lift the SUV off those pinned underneath.
The Colorado Springs Police Department responded swiftly, arresting the driver, Marisol Wentling, on charges of vehicular assault. Thankfully, she escaped unscathed from the crash.
However, according to a police statement, several of Wentling’s passengers were rushed to local hospitals with “serious, life-threatening injuries.” As of this moment, their conditions remain unknown, and the police department has not yet provided an update.
