Aurora Standoff Ends with Two Suspects in Custody After Crash, Foot Chase, and Barricade
A high-stakes chase in Arapahoe County on Saturday morning ended in Aurora with a stolen car crash, a brief foot chase, a shelter-in-place order, and a barricade standoff that lasted nearly five hours. Two suspects, a man and a woman, are now in custody and being treated at a hospital while charges are pending.
The incident began around 7:30 a.m. when a license plate reader flagged a stolen vehicle near Parker Road and Mississippi Avenue. When deputies attempted a traffic stop, the vehicle fled and crossed into Aurora, where the chase was called off due to jurisdiction policy. The vehicle was later found crashed near Dayton Street and Parker Road. Both occupants ran from the scene, triggering a manhunt.
The male suspect allegedly broke into an apartment in the Raintree East condos and barricaded himself inside. A shelter-in-place was issued for nearby residents while Aurora SWAT and Arapahoe deputies surrounded the area. After failed negotiations, a drone and robot were deployed to locate him. Tear gas was eventually used to flush him out of a bedroom, and a K-9 assisted in his arrest just before 1 p.m. No other injuries were reported. Authorities later confirmed the stolen vehicle had been taken from a Costco lot earlier in the week.
