Denver Garage Fire Caught on Camera, Arson Investigation Underway
A Denver family is safe but shaken after a terrifying fire engulfed their garage early Sunday morning, and a Ring camera may have captured the culprit in action. Around 3:40 a.m., surveillance footage showed a man lingering near the garage, flicking a lighter as he rummaged through trash bins. Moments later, the garage erupted into flames, leaving the family stunned and prompting an arson investigation.
Neighbor Jose Dias was out walking his dog when he heard crackling sounds and noticed flames shooting into the air. Realizing the fire was coming from a nearby garage, he immediately sprang into action, first knocking on the family’s door before grabbing his fire extinguisher to try to contain the blaze. When that ran out, he jumped into the yard, grabbed a garden hose, and sprayed the flames until firefighters arrived. His quick thinking likely prevented the fire from spreading to the family’s home.
Homeowners Casie and Doug Bell were asleep at the time but woke up to the commotion. Casie, in a panic, called 911 while Dias worked to suppress the flames. Firefighters arrived quickly, finding moderate smoke and flames inside the garage. Crews managed to contain the fire to the garage, preventing further damage to the home or surrounding properties. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but authorities are looking into potential arson. The Bells hope someone can identify the individual seen on camera to prevent another dangerous incident. “I just hope he doesn’t do it again,” Casie said. “Maybe it was just a bad decision, a bad night.” Anyone with information is urged to contact law enforcement.
